First of all, I'm only looking for friendship, not a partner, okay? I live in Malanda after retiring in mid-2015. I am healthy and secure . . no issues physically or mentally. I am separated, but only 10 months out of 12 months each year, as my partner now lives overseas looking after an elderly relative. For those who would remind me that this is a "dating site", please understand that friendship is also one of the stated relationships people can seek here, so please do not assume I have overstepped by using the site with that intent. There are some fine people here, and I am honoured to meet you. I extend goodwill to one and all, and I hope many find what they hope to find through this site.
Update 22 July 2016:
Well, after joining four of these "meet people" sites as a paid member, in four months of diligently viewing profiles, sending edifying comments and messages and generally being as polite as a person can be, I have met 5 people in person from the experience. Nice people. We've shared coffees, dinners, chats . . all quite civil and appropriate, and I appreciate those kind neighbours.
I've also had a number of ladies who, perhaps due to prior bad experiences, or perhaps a bit senile like I likely am, have merely taken the time to accuse me of being some sort of scammer because I had the audacity to be friendly. Annoying as that is, I do understand, as I've had my share of scammers giving me their tired lines as well.
I'm not on here to research anything, but I thought I'd share those observations for others, who perhaps can relate to this. Meanwhile, it becomes apparent that my wife's idea of finding local female friends online (yes, she lives overseas caring for her elderly mother, and I stay here caring for our home), is not really productive. These are after all, filled with people who want to jump straight into marriage or find someone to split travel on the female side of the site populace, and judging by reactions I get, the male populace must be laced with those looking for no-strings fun.
I'm out of place here, folks. Thanks for helping me see that.
